To Members and Friends of the Newfield Historical Society:
At 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2023, the Newfield Historical
Society will unveil a historical marker for Newfield native and US
Civil War patriotic singer, Kate Dean.
The marker unveiling and dedication ceremony will take place at the
east end of Main Street, Newfield, NY, just south of where Main Street
intersects NY Route 13 and Taber Road. The marker is being installed
across the street from Kate’s father’s house where she was born and
raised.
There will be a reception hosted by the Newfield Historical Society
immediately following at the Newfield History and Activities Center at
192 Main Street, Newfield where visitors will be able to see a special
exhibit on historical Newfield Women of Note, with focus on Kate Dean.
Tours will be given by request to Kate Dean’s grave site in Newfield’s
Woodlawn Cemetery.
The Kate Dean historical marker has been made possible by a grant from
the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.
