Newfield High School teacher Liz Kozlowski was recognized on April 14, 2026, Tuesday afternoon with the New York State Senate’s Educators Inspiring a Generation Award, an honor that celebrates outstanding educators across the region.
Kozlowski received the award during a surprise presentation at a faculty meeting in the high school library, where colleagues gathered to celebrate her impact on students, staff, and the broader school community.
The recognition is part of Senator Lea Webb’s annual Educator Recognition Program, which highlights educators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to student success, innovation in the classroom, and leadership within their school communities.
“Liz exemplifies what it means to be an inspiring educator,” said High School Principal Ed Medina, who nominated her for the award. “Her ability to build meaningful relationships with students while challenging them to grow academically and personally is truly exceptional.”
Since joining the Newfield Central School District in 2012, Kozlowski has made a lasting impact through her work in English Language Arts and beyond. She is known for fostering curiosity, resilience, and confidence in her students, helping them move past self-doubt and take ownership of their learning.
An innovative educator, Kozlowski has developed and taught a range of concurrent enrollment courses, including Academic Writing, Approaches to Literature, and Introduction to Sociology, providing students with opportunities to earn college credit while still in high school.
Her leadership extends well beyond the classroom. Kozlowski serves as the district’s PK-12 Instructional Coach for English Language Arts, mentors new teachers, and advises multiple student organizations, including the National Honor Society and Literature Club. She has also contributed to broader initiatives such as developing antiracist curriculum through the Cornell Upward Bound program and participating in the TST BOCES Aspiring Leaders cohort.
Colleagues describe Kozlowski as deeply committed to both student success and the professional growth of others. She regularly leads professional development and supports fellow educators, helping to strengthen instruction across the district.
“Through passion, innovation, and leadership, Liz inspires students to believe in themselves and achieve excellence,” Medina said. “She represents the very best of our profession.”
The Educators Inspiring a Generation Award is presented annually to one educator from each school in New York State Senate District 52, recognizing those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of students.
